Welcome Dinner Project Co-Coordinator – QLD

Location: Brisbane

Start date: to start immediately

Remuneration: We aim for this to be a 6-8 hour per week employed role but until we secure further funding we are looking for a volunteer to commit at least 4 hours per week to begin immediately. In addition, phone and travel reimbursements are available. Please note, this role has the opportunity to become a long-term position with additional hours once further funding is secured.

 

The Welcome Dinner Project is a major initiative of non-profit organisation joiningthedots. The Welcome Dinner Project has been connecting newly arrived people with established Australians over pot-luck dinners in local homes since March 2013. The initiative is well established in Queensland, with regular home and community dinners taking place. A dedicated team of volunteers have been trained as Welcome Dinner facilitators throughout Queensland and there are many existing networks and beneficial partnerships already formed with like-minded organisations.

 

We are looking for a skilled communicator and creative thinker, with a passion for community building and a more just society, to join our team. As part of the QLD State Coordination Team, you will share the strategic role of driving and growing the project by building collaborative partnerships with key community organisations and groups, and actively exploring sponsorship and grant opportunities. In addition, you will support the coordination team in overseeing the quality, effectiveness and evaluation of Welcome Dinners, including reporting and evaluation on existing grants. The role also provides a leadership opportunity diverse team of volunteers responsible for facilitating Welcome Dinners.

This role is a great opportunity to further develop your skills in the context of a grass-roots organisation, while significantly contributing to the growth of an initiative that is making a tangible difference in people’s lives, creating the kind of connected and welcoming Australia we all want to live in.

Initial induction and ongoing training will provided.

Required Skills and Attributes:

  • A passion for creating a culture of welcome in Australia.
  • An ability to communicate effectively with culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
  • A flexible and adaptable attitude and understanding of the evolving nature of the role and the project
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities and effectively organise your time.
  • High degree of self-motivation, initiative and attention to detail
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft word, excel, powerpoint, database management and google apps
  • Some understanding of the issues being faced by newly arrived people to Australia

Desired Skills and Attributes

  • Understanding of or knowledge/experience in the not-for-profit sector
  • A strategic mindset with the ability to plan, and deliver outcomes.
  • Reporting and evaluation skills.
  • Experience in coordinating, motivating and empowering volunteers.
  • Familiarity with Brisbane communities.
  • Experience with delivering pitches or public speaking skills.
  • Access to your own vehicle would be an advantage.
